Saturday 9th July saw Forever Hounds Trust celebrate its 20th birthday and marked the change of name from GRWE, Greyhound Rescue West of England.

The big birthday party was hosted by Honorary Friends of the Trust, the actor Anthony Head and his wife Sarah Fisher, at Tilley Farm in Somerset. The sun shone on the dozens of volunteers who, sporting their brand new ‘Forever Hounds Trust’ polo shirt, set about putting up gazebos, tables, BBQs, the catering barn, show ring and car parking areas.

By 11am the car parks were filling up as hundreds of people and their dogs arrived to join the party. Amongst the arrivals was a pretty lurcher called Treacle, the mother of a litter of puppies born while in the care of Forever Hounds Trust. Treacle’s pups were celebrating their second birthday at the event, and Treacle looked proud as punch as she posed for photos, surrounded by her offspring, on the ‘forever sofa’ set up in the main arena.

Indeed, the ‘forever sofa’ was a hive of activity throughout the day, with plenty of dogs using it as a spot to chill out and many more posing for a photo or two with Anthony Head. At one point the lovely Murdoch, star of a media campaign towards the end of last year was spotted having a well earned rest with his new owner Lesley.

The afternoon’s dog show was a huge success, with many dogs of all sizes and breeds going home proudly displaying their rosettes. Best in show went to the lovely Greta Greyhound, who looked thrilled with her prize!

Towards the end of the afternoon Jan Lake, Chair of Trustees for Forever Hounds Trust, was excited to announce that the first hound had been homed under the new name for the organisation. Tim and Gill adopted the lovely Clemmie, a lovely older lady lurcher, who will be living with them and their two other greyhounds.

Forever Hounds Trust are indebted to the many volunteers who worked so tirelessly to make the event such a wonderful celebration of all that the organisation has achieved over the last two decades. Of course our thanks also go to Anthony Head and Sarah Fisher, who were so generous with their hosting of the event and allowing us to use the wonderful facilities at Tilley Farm. The event raised a wonderful £4,777 to help our ongoing work to help hounds in need – thank you all for your amazing support.
