A daring Herefordshire woman has taken to the skies to help a dog rescue charity – by flying through the air on the wings of an aeroplane. Mary Roberts, from Ledbury, celebrated her birthday by taking part in a ‘wing walk’, raising nearly £300 for Forever Hounds Trust, an organisation which rescues and finds homes for unwanted greyhounds and lurchers across the UK.

Mary, who has two of her own rescue hounds, volunteers for the charity by arranging fundraising events across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, which also raise awareness about the cause. She says: ‘As I was making the booking, my heart was racing but it was an amazing experience! The donations received show support for the hounds we have already rescued and those we are yet to meet’.

Anna Claxton, Project Manager for Community Fundraising Development for the charity, says: ‘Mary is incredible and such an inspiration. Our volunteers are so dedicated to helping the special dogs that come into our care and, without this sort of kindness, we would not be able to continue our vital work’.
