The day I went home forever, by Dewi

Dewi (was Sam) has gone home forever! When his lovely new family sadly lost one of their beloved greyhounds, although they could never replace him, they couldn’t wait to welcome a new hound in need into their lives.

Dewi is settling in well with his new family – in fact he couldn’t be happier! It was a very exciting day for him when he went home, have a read of his account of events below.

Well I’ve had a very unexpected weekend. On Friday I was just settling down for a nice afternoon snooze in my kennel when I was woken up for an extra walk. Even more strangely there were two nice greyhounds on my walk who I’d never met before. We all had a lovely walk, said hello to each other a few times, mooched about a bit. Then we had a lovely play in the big pen – we shared some sniffs, had a few runs and generally bimbled about. They were very lovely dogs and it was just like we were old friends.

After that I went back to my kennel and my other friends and settled down wondering what on earth that had been about. It got even stranger this morning. I had my breakfast and then headed out for a lovely walk and when I came back my new friends were there again! I had lots of loves and cuddles and had a new harness and collar put on. I then got in this strange van – it was sort of flatter and longer, but it had a very squidgy bed, so I settled down to see what happened. Well we were in there for a very long time but suddenly we stopped and everyone got out.

As well as the two friendly greyhounds there were two new humans. They are lovely – they keep on giving me ear rubs and telling me I’m in my new home. I don’t know what this means, but I think I might like it. Sometimes one or both of the humans disappear, but then they come back. Every time they reappear I wag my tail so much it spins like a helicopter. I think I like these new humans.

Then we went into this HUGE kennel – it was very strange. It had a lovely outdoor bit full of plants, and the inside bit had all sorts of squidgy beds to lie on. And there was this AMAZING space which was just full of food smells and if I jumped up a bit I could find all sorts of yummy things on a work service to munch on. I also found a big bag of my food which I had a lovely snack from! Well suddenly I couldn’t get into that room because all the doors were shut. How mean!

But then there was this amazing flashy thing that came on and started making noise – that was so much fun to watch for ages! Finally I was allowed in the yummy room again and had a lovely bowl of food, but someone had put a tin can in there which meant I had to slow down to eat. Even more how mean! Finally I decided I was rather sleepy so I’ve gone back to the squidgy room to have a snooze. I wonder if I’ll go back to the old kennels or if I can stay in this really big kennel with my new friends.

I think I’d like to stay here…

Dewi
